File Transfers via Globus

General Information

In the ReD Environment, ingest and export of all files – data, code, figures, etc – must follow strict protocols. There are important differences to note between imports and exports:

• Imports: An approval step is not required. Files are scanned on import for malware/viruses and are made available inside your workspace in the import/ folder.
• Exports: There is a formal review and approval process. Files saved to export/ folder inside ReD appear in the Globus export/ folder only after review and approval.

Exports

Pursuant to federal data control requirements, the export process in ReD has been designed to meet compliance requirements and reduce risk through shared responsibility. This is achieved through a manual, human-review step and an automated scan.

Briefly, files can be exported from the ReD Environment only after:

1. The designated Data Manager has reviewed the files being exported and (via ServiceNow export request ticket) has attested that the file contents follow the specific DUA guidelines (e.g. cell suppression)
2. The DUA for the project is named in the ServiceNow ticket.
3. The DM includes a specific statement of attestation.
4. The ReD Team has scanned the files for PII/PHI/regulated data and there are no positive matches.

When moving data, please keep in mind all data compliance requirements which can be specific to the DUA or IRB protocols established. If in doubt, ask!
